Garmin HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim heart rate monitors work in water
Heart rate monitors have been around for years that make it easy to keep track of your heart rate while you walk or run. What has been hard to do is keep an eye on your heart rate while swimming. Garmin has now unveiled its first underwater heart rate monitors that are designed to add minimal drag. There are versions of the new heart rate monitor for the water aimed at swimmers and triathletes.
The new monitors are called the HRM-Tri for triathletes and the HRM-Swim for swimmers. Both of these sensors can store up to 20 hours of heart rate data during swims and both are capable of forwarding to compatible Garmin devices after a swim session. When the monitors are out of the water, they can send real-time heart rate data to the monitors.
The HRM-Tri is the smallest and lightest heart rate monitor that Garmin offers. It has an adjustable soft strap with rounded edges and covered seams for comfort. Out of the water, it is capable of providing running dynamics, cadence, vertical oscillation, and ground contact time. The battery inside is user replaceable and good for ten months.
The battery inside the HRM-Swim is good for up to 18 month. Swim data captured includes pace, strokes, SWOLF, and heart rate graphs. HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim will ship in Q3 for $129.99 and $99.99 respectively. A Forerunner 920XT Tri bundle will sell for $599.99 including both heart rate monitors.
